World Water Academy facilitator at Blue Deal Congress

The very first Blue Deal Congress was a great success. From June 12 until June 14, delegations from 14 Blue Deal partnerships visited the Netherlands to join this event. Afterwards, they were given the opportunity to visit a partner water authority in the Netherlands. The second day was dedicated to workshops on topics that play a major role within the Blue Deal. There were sessions on Water pricing, Water safety management, Stakeholder participation, Urban wastewater management, Nature-based solutions, and Smart monitoring.

World Water Academy present at #co-CreateMYCITY Durban

World Water Academy was present at the #cocreateMYCITY event, held at the Elangeni Hotel in Durban and saw young professionals pitch their solutions for water challenges to a jury of experts, and the presentation of a prize to the top group of professionals. These innovative solutions and the inclusion of youth in the water sector provide hope for a more sustainable, inclusive and secure water future for South Africa, and specifically the City of eThekwini.

Wastewater training at Ethekwini Municipality

In June, World Water Academy delivered a training on wastewater treatment at Ethekwini Municipality Water And Sanitation. In total, 22 participants from Ethekwini Municipality took part in the training. Participants were highly motivated and our expert Helle van der Roest was impressed with their eagerness to learn and to share knowledge and experiences with each other.

Bridging the Water in South Africa

In 2019 the Orange Knowledge Programme ‘Bridging the Water’ took off. The project, funded by Nuffic, is a collaboration between Dutch and South African partners to improve the skills and knowledge of water professionals in South Africa and to develop sustainable knowledge-exchange and collaboration.

Course Weather Smart for Inkomati - Usuthu Catchment Management Agency

Inkomati - Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA) is responsible for water management in South Africa across the basin of the Komati and Usuthu rivers. IUCMA and other CMA’s in South Africa invested in dashboards to streamline the weather and water management data more efficiently. The purpose of this modular course of nine days was to train employees of the IUCMA in water resource management combined with weather forecast and the use of the dashboards.

Centre of Expertise in Durban

The Centre of Expertise is an initiative by eThekwini Water & Sanitation (EWS) in Durban and various Dutch partners. Under the general framework a series of pilot projects will be executed to showcase the implementation of new technologies and knowledge at EWS. For these individual pilot projects contribution and support from various partners will be combined. The four pilot projects above have been identified and executed, but many more ideas are waiting to be transformed into pilot projects in the near future.
