Good teamwork at Wetskills-Romania 2017

World Water Academy (WWA) submitted a study case for Wetskills-Romania 2017. The WWA team consisted on four students worked in two weeks on the assignment: “How can the Romanian water sector maintain, spread and even improve its practical knowledge and skills in a self-supportive / business-wise manner?” Sergiu Vasilie (Universitatea Politehnica di Timisoara), Irene van der Water (Zeeland University of Applied Sciences), Niels Heres (Radboud University Nijmegen) and Andreea Monea (Universitatea Politehnica di Bucuresti) came up with their concept ‘A Drop of Knowledge, Train to teach – teach to improve’.

Wetskills-RO 2017 WWA Team 1

The team found out the Romanian water technology sector in the public domain contains approximately 28,000-30,000 professionals. Due to the fast developments next five year 5,000 new positions will be created. The technical knowledge is quite well developed, but the practical application to the daily tasks and the correspondent skills could be improved. The team suggests to focus on a more top down approach where trainers teach the staff below them.  According to the team, this will result in an exponential increase of well-trained staff. The team believes that when the Romanian water sector embraces this concept the water sector can be trained in 5 years in a self-sustained.

WWA is happy with the results and underlying data that the team came up with. WWA would like to thank Sergiu, Andreea, Irene and Niels for their work en enthusiasm. During the Wetskills event we had contact via email and skype many times. WWA will go further with the ideas and find out what could be beneficial for our international activities and especially in Romania.
