Drinking water treatment techniques



Learning targets

The availability of clean water is essential for human health. The water company must assure clean drinking water delivery to its customers  24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To make the water suitable for human consumption the raw water undergoes a variety of process steps. This course explains each of the process steps in detail.

The participants will learn which type of contaminants are removed in each production step. The setup of each step and the relevant parameters are discussed. Meanwhile the participant will learn more about the system as a whole and become aware that an impact in the system will have an effect in other parts of the system.

  • Groundwater and surface water treatment
  • Chemical purification
  • Physical purification
  • Disinfection
  • Novel treatment techniques
  • System thinking

After completing this course you have a profound understanding of the entire production process.

Training approach

In addition to classroom presentations this course comprises interactive and innovative training methods, such as group work, discussions, practical exercises, demonstrations and  role-plays. The  training methods are tailored to the objectives of the training.

This course includes a field trip to a drinking water plant.

Extra

This course is one of the four modules of the overall course Water Supply. After successfully completing the four modules, the participant will be awarded a diploma.
