Basics of drinking water production

The availability of clean drinking water is essential for human health. The water supplier delivers clean drinking water to its customers  24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In drinking water utilities the raw water is treated to become high quality drinking water which is safe for human consumption.

Good and consistent operation of the production facilities is crucial for the continuity of clean water provision. Operators play a key role in maintaining constant production of clean water and need to be skilled.

In this course you learn how drinking water is produced, how raw water is converted to drinking water. Each step of the production process is briefly explained. You will learn how to accommodate water supply to changes in demand.

• Water treatment in general
• Relevant laws and regulations

Outcome

After completing this module you know which steps raw water undergoes to become suitable for human consumption. You will have a basic understanding of the whole water production process.

Training approach

In addition to classroom presentations this course comprises interactive and innovative training methods, such as group work, discussions, practical exercises, demonstrations and  role-plays. The  training methods are tailored to the objectives of the training.

Extra

This course is one of the four modules of the overall course Water Supply. After successfully completing the four modules, the participant will be awarded a diploma.
