Mission World Water Academy to Bangladesh for the DeltaCap project

World Water Academy develops building blocks for the development of an operational plan (business plan) to sustain the Training Activities of the Delta Centre in Bangladesh. In July 2018 a mission to Bangladesh was held to explore the current practices of training centres in Bangladesh with similar scope in same and/or other domains (how do they operate/management structure, what is the business model, etc.). We discussed ideas and needs with the focal points, the partners of the Delta Centre.  And we met the main organisations being the future clients. A important question was: “what is the condition for sustainability?”. From the different meetings we concluded that reputation, quality and focus are seen as main conditions.

The “Delta Centre” is being developed in a Nuffic project: DeltaCap (2016-2020) of IHE, WUR and BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology). The Delta Centre develops knowledge to implement the Delta Plan. Capacity building by training  is one of the activities of the Centre. The water professionals in Bangladesh will be capacitated to fulfil current and future challenges in the water sector.

World Water Academy gives advice to the DeltaCap project using their expertise and experiences as being a self-supportive Training Institute. Next phase will be the further development of each building block with several options. And the blocks are connected. WWA will puzzle how to fit the pieces into a framework. Aim is to develop a model, specifically fitting to the needs of Bangladesh. A model that creates sustainable training supply, especially after the Dutch Nuffic grants ends.
