The availability of clean drinking water is essential for human health. The water supplier delivers clean drinking water to its customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In drinking water utilities the raw water is treated to become high quality drinking water which is safe for human consumption.
Good and consistent operation of the production facilities is crucial for the continuity of clean water provision. Operators play a key role in maintaining constant production of clean water and need to be skilled.
In this course you learn how drinking water is produced, how raw water is converted to drinking water. You zoom in on every step of the production process. The course explains how the chemical and microbiological content affect the water quality and how contamination can be prevented. You learn how adequate maintenance can prevent emergencies and how to react in emergency situations.
The course is taught in 4 modules which can be taken separately:
- Basics of drinking water production
- Water quality, sampling and hygienic working
- Drinking water treatment techniques
- Operation & maintenance of a water supply plant
After successfully completing the course you have a profound understanding of how a drinking water production plant works. You know how to operate & maintain a plant and you can work hygienically to prevent contamination of the clean water.

In addition to classroom presentations this course comprises interactive and innovative training methods, such as group work, discussions, practical exercises, demonstrations and role-plays. The training methods are tailored to the objectives of the training.
After successfully completing all 4 modules you will be awarded a diploma.
