Inland dredging & logistics for water systems in urban areas



Learning targets

Dredging is an important method to maintain navigation channels. The success of dredging project lies in a good planning, preface (including set-up of dredging projects, tendering and permitting), organisation and logistics. This requires specific knowledge and skills for dredging works.

In this course, the participants are introduced in the background of Operation & Maintenance of water channels in urban areas and the role of dredging. The main steps of a dredging process is explained. The participants learn various dredging techniques as mechanical and hydraulic dredging. Special attention is paid on the dredging process during the work, for instance: monitoring, sampling and analysing of the water, bottom and sludge. The participants get familiar with to the quantity and the quality of sludge and the potential danger of the dredging process. Finally, the importance of quality, safety (both personal and other colleagues, passer-bys, infrastructure and buildings) and environmental issues are highlighted.
