Water quality, sampling and hygienic working

Learning targets

The availability of clean drinking water is essential for human health. To make tap water suitable for human consumption it needs to be of good quality and thus free from chemical or biological contamination. Pipelines and utilities have to be kept clean at all times. Every human interference can contaminate the water. To prevent contamination, hygienic working is needed when handling equipment and utilities that get into contact with the water.

This course explains the basics of chemistry and microbiology and how the chemical and microbiological composition of the water relate to water quality.

You will learn how to take samples for quality control and how to handle the drinking water utilities in an hygienic manner to prevent contamination of the water.
