First results OKP Project Bridging the Water
The project ‘Bridging the water: co-create to learn & experience’ has officially been launched on the 1st of February at the Durban University of Technology. The project aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the South African water sector. Dutch and South African partners co-create solutions in water education in order to improve water management, water services and the livelihood of citizens.
The work had to start after the launch. Several meetings, mails, skypes were held between the partners to bring the paper idea to live! New persons have new ideas and everything has to lead to the project outcomes.
Our first results are:
- On- the -job training.
- The course Basics of Wastewater Treatment (8 ECT, 2 days) is delivered twice in Durban and once in Cape Town. Colleagues of Water authority Brabantse Delta were the trainer. 60 procescontrollers attended the training. Some quotes:…..
- The advanced course Nutrient removal and sludge treatment (2 days) is under construction. Target group is the senior pc’s. First delivery in February 2020 in Durban
- The course Basics of Water Treatment (2 days) is under construction. First delivery February 2020 in Durban
- Living Labs
- 3 students of Hogeschool Rotterdam worked on the Remix Living Lab in Durban in their internship
- 2 students of Hogeschool Rotterdam and 6 students of TU Delft are working now in Cape Town (Water hub Franschhoek) on the Living Lab Informal Settlements
- Pooling trainers
- Local professionals are trained to become a trainer. One delivery in Durban and one delivery in Cape Town resulted in 22 professionals who participated in the Training of Trainers.
- Project management
- A workshop Generation Z is Coming: go with their flow is given at the Young WISA Conference, 21 October 2019 Durban.
- The project implementation agreement agreed by the 10 partners
- Two young professionals (YEP) are based in South Africa as local assistant project coordinator. Londiwe Dlamini (Durban) and Sjoske Tuinstra (Cape Town)
