Strengthening International Water Knowledge and Collaboration

The global water sector is facing increasingly complex challenges. Climate change is putting pressure on water availability and resilience, while rapid urbanisation, ageing infrastructure, digital transformation and growing skills gaps require new approaches and stronger collaboration. In this context, World Water Academy continued to strengthen its role as an international partner for capacity development, knowledge exchange and practical learning.

Throughout 2025, we connected water professionals, utilities, knowledge institutes and governments across Europe, Africa and Asia through tailor-made training programmes, international workshops, strategic partnerships and sector dialogues. From advancing water reuse and digitalisation in Morocco to strengthening drinking water quality expertise in Malaysia, our programmes focused on building local capacity while sharing global best practices.

Knowledge exchange remained at the heart of our work. We contributed to international platforms including World Water Week in Stockholm, Water Knowledge Europe, the Association of Water and Sanitation Institutions of South Africa Conference, and collaborative initiatives in South Africa and the Netherlands, creating opportunities for professionals to learn from one another and develop solutions for shared water challenges.

At the same time, we explored emerging topics shaping the future of the sector, including artificial intelligence, innovation, water resilience and inclusive leadership. Through partnerships, workshops and learning networks, we helped prepare water professionals for the opportunities and challenges ahead.

The highlights in this Year Review demonstrate how investing in people, skills and collaboration remains essential for creating resilient and future-ready water systems worldwide.
