Strategy

For more than 30 years, World Water Academy has been a leading provider of professional training for the water sector. Together with our partners, we strengthen and advance practical, up-to-date water knowledge. Through a unique portfolio of programs, we accelerate the exchange of expertise and support water professionals in their continuous development.

We actively follow developments in the sector and continuously adapt our programs to the evolving learning needs of professionals and organizations.
Today, the water sector operates in an increasingly complex environment where expectations are constantly evolving.

Organizations must balance growth with resilience, combine holistic approaches with specialized expertise, and integrate technological innovation—such as artificial intelligence—while preserving the essential value of craftsmanship and technical skills.

External developments also increasingly influence the direction of the sector. Social and political dynamics, the growing urgency of water safety and cybersecurity, and the rising visibility of water issues on the societal agenda all shape the context in which water professionals operate.

At the same time, the sector faces a major workforce transition. An ageing workforce, labour shortages, and generational shifts highlight the importance of investing in new talent, diversity, and changing learning needs. This requires continuous innovation in teaching methods, the use of modern digital learning tools, and new approaches to effective knowledge transfer.

World Water Academy approaches these developments with care and strategic focus. Our choices are deliberate and well-considered.

To guide our strategy, five key themes have been identified. These themes form the foundation for further development in our programs and projects:

  • Our position
  • Sector challenges
  • People
  • Technology
  • Society
